X-Ray Scanner Deployed to Combat Auto Theft

I extend my sincere gratitude to the federal government and Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc for announcing the deployment of a container scanner in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). This tool will significantly aid in our ongoing efforts to combat the scourge of auto thefts in Brampton.

My recent visit to Port Newark with Peel Regional Police highlighted the effectiveness of advanced scanning technologies in preventing the export of stolen vehicles. Newark’s success demonstrates that these technologies can protect property and disrupt organized crime networks.

By adopting similar measures, including enhanced scanning capabilities, Canada can make significant strides in addressing the pervasive issue of auto theft. I am encouraged by the federal government’s support by bringing the first scanner to the GTA. This is an important step in tackling organized crime that use our intermodal hubs to move stolen goods.

Together, we can make our communities safer and put organized crime out of business. Thank you again to Minister LeBlanc and the Government of Canada for listening to our concerns and embarking on an important step to ending the surge in auto thefts.
