I am proud to share that Brampton City Council has officially passed Budget 2026, delivering a responsible plan that protects affordability while continuing to invest in the services our residents rely on.
Budget 2026 delivers a 0 percent increase to the City’s portion of property taxes, while maintaining record levels in reserves and continuing the dedicated 1 percent hospital levy to support construction of Brampton’s second hospital. That levy is essential to keeping this critical project moving forward, with construction set to begin later this year.
Throughout the budget process, we heard clearly from residents across Brampton. People are feeling the pressure of inflation, high interest rates, and rising costs, and they told us affordability must come first. Council listened closely, and those conversations directly shaped the final budget that was approved. This is how local democracy should work. Residents spoke, and we responded.
The budget also makes important investments that strengthen our city. Budget 2026 supports public safety, including additional bylaw enforcement and fire prevention resources supported by modern technology. It includes historic investments in parks and recreation that help keep residents active and support preventative health care. It also advances innovation, economic growth, and continued investment in arts and culture, all while ensuring long term financial stability.
By keeping Brampton’s municipal tax rate among the lowest in the GTHA, we are supporting families, seniors, workers, and businesses, and protecting taxpayers during challenging economic times.
I want to thank every resident who took the time to participate in the budget process. Your feedback mattered, and it made a real difference. I also want to thank City staff for their dedication in finding efficiencies, and our business community partners for helping ensure Brampton remains competitive, attracts investment, and creates jobs.
Budget 2026 reflects what we heard from the community, and I am proud to deliver a budget that is responsible, responsive, and focused on building a stronger Brampton.
