Black History Month 2023 Kick-Off

On February 1st, Brampton residents were invited to City Hall, to highlight and acknowledge the numerous contributions of the Canadian Black community. 

This year, the theme for Black History Month is “Black Resistance” including how Black Canadians have resisted historic and ongoing oppression, in all forms. Watch terrific performances and presentations from the evening’s events below…

Zanana Akande, the first woman from the African Diaspora elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario and also first to serve as a cabinet minister in Canada.

Chief Stacey Laforme, Mississauga of the Credit First Nation. “We should never have to change to fit in to society, the world around us should adapt to embrace our uniqueness.”

Brampton West MP Kamal Khera, Minister of Seniors thanked the trailblazers including Myrna Adams and Marjorie Taylor.
