It was a truly exciting moment for Brampton. Standing alongside Prime Minister Mark Carney and Minister Gregor Robertson, we announced bold, collaborative investments that represent a new chapter in how governments work together to get things built.
Only 62 days prior, I sat across from the Prime Minister with our Canadian Big City Mayors Caucus and made the case for urgency before this construction season. Both the Prime Minister and the Minister of Housing showed up in Brampton to deliver on that ask. That’s action.
I want to extend a sincere thank you to Minister Robertson. As a former big city mayor who led Vancouver for a decade, he understands the frontline challenges our cities face and he has been a genuine advocate for Canadian cities at the federal cabinet table.
Among the announcements, I’m thrilled to share that the federal government is investing $64 million to build the new Embleton Community Centre and Park, a 175,000 square-foot facility with pools, a gym, child care, an ice pavilion, and courts for tennis, pickleball, and cricket. This project happened because of the tireless advocacy of Brampton City Council and MP Sonia Sidhu, and I am deeply grateful.
This is what partnership looks like. When all orders of government pull in the same direction, we can move faster, build smarter, and deliver better results for the residents who depend on us. We are building for today, and more importantly, for the future.
Thank you, Prime Minister Carney. Thank you, Minister Robertson. Brampton is proud to lead the way.
