Today marks one of the most important turning points in Brampton’s history. After years of advocacy, planning, and partnership, we are officially moving forward with Phase One of the Riverwalk project that will unlock the full potential of our downtown.
For decades, floodplain restrictions held back development in our downtown. We couldn’t build new housing, we couldn’t attract major employers, and we couldn’t revitalize the core the way Brampton residents deserved. That ends now. Riverwalk will deliver the flood protection required to enable growth, support new development, and welcome more than 17,700 new residents and nearly 23,800 jobs, including over 2,200 construction jobs. It paves the way for 3.6 million square feet of new residential, commercial, and retail space for a thriving and modern downtown.
Site preparation begins in the coming weeks, with full construction starting in early 2026 and continuing through spring 2028. This progress wouldn’t be possible without the incredible partnership between all three levels of government. Our federal and provincial representatives fought tirelessly to make this project a reality, helping unlock critical investments in long-term resilience, housing, and economic development.
Riverwalk is more than a construction project — it’s a transformational moment. It allows Brampton to grow, innovate, and compete. It means new homes, new jobs, new public spaces, and renewed confidence in our downtown’s future.
Thank you to everyone who believed in this vision. Today, Brampton takes a major step forward.
